Serverless web app cost estimate
An API gateway in front of functions that run on demand, object storage for files, and data out to users. There are no servers to keep running, so cost follows traffic.
Monthly estimate
Lowest complete estimate: Amazon Web Services, $51.56 a month.
Monthly cost by cloud and service| Cloud | API gateway | Function compute | Object storage | Internet data transfer | Total |
|---|
| Amazon Web Services | $21.00 | $17.13 | $2.50 | $10.93 | $51.56 |
|---|
| Oracle Cloud | $60.00 | $14.94 | $2.30 | $0.00 | $77.23 |
|---|
| Microsoft Azure | $66.50 | $16.60 | $2.00 | $12.00 | $97.10 |
|---|
| Google Cloud (incomplete) | Can't be sized | Can't be sized | $2.30 | $24.00 | $26.30 + gaps |
|---|
Prices as of 2026-11-02, list prices in USD. A cloud with a gap is ranked below complete ones and never called cheapest.
How each cloud was priced
Amazon Web Services: $51.56
- API gateway: Amazon API Gateway (HTTP API) (vendor pricing)
- HTTP API requests: 20 million calls, $21.00 (20 million requests a month)
- Function compute: AWS Lambda (x86) (vendor pricing)
- Requests: 19 million invocations, $3.80 (20 million runs minus the free 1 million)
- Duration: 800,000 GB-second, $13.33 (20 million runs × 120 ms × 512 MB ÷ 1,024 = 1,200,000 GB-seconds, minus the free 400,000)
- Object storage: Amazon S3 Standard (vendor pricing)
- Data stored: 100 GB-month, $2.50 (100 GB stored)
- Internet data transfer: AWS data transfer out (vendor pricing)
- Free data transfer out (all regions): 100 GB, $0.00 (the first 100 GB a month are free)
- Data transfer out to the internet: 100 GB, $10.93 (200 GB − 100 GB free)
Oracle Cloud: $77.23
- API gateway: OCI API Gateway (vendor pricing)
- API calls: 20 million calls, $60.00 (20 million requests a month)
- Function compute: Oracle Functions (vendor pricing)
- Function invocations: 20 million invocations, $3.60 (20 million runs)
- Execution time: 1,200,000 GB-second, $11.34 (20 million runs × 120 ms × 512 MB ÷ 1,024 = 1,200,000 GB-seconds)
- Object storage: OCI Object Storage (Standard) (vendor pricing)
- Data stored: 100 GB-month, $2.30 (100 GB stored)
- Internet data transfer: OCI outbound data transfer (vendor pricing)
- Data transfer out (from Asia Pacific): 200 GB, $0.00 (200 GB a month)
Microsoft Azure: $97.10
- API gateway: Azure API Management (Consumption tier) (vendor pricing)
- API calls: 20 million calls, $66.50 (20 million requests a month)
- Function compute: Azure Functions (Consumption plan) (vendor pricing)
- Executions: 20 million invocations, $3.80 (20 million runs)
- Execution time: 1,200,000 GB-second, $12.80 (20 million runs × 120 ms × 512 MB ÷ 1,024 = 1,200,000 GB-seconds)
- Object storage: Azure Blob Storage (Hot, LRS) (vendor pricing)
- Data stored: 100 GB-month, $2.00 (100 GB stored)
- Internet data transfer: Azure bandwidth (Microsoft network routing) (vendor pricing)
- Data transfer out to the internet: 200 GB, $12.00 (200 GB a month)
Google Cloud: $26.30 (incomplete)
- API gateway: Google Cloud API Gateway (vendor pricing). Can't be sized.
Google's API Gateway is billed per call, but that price is not in the Cloud Billing Catalog the prices are read from, so it can't be sized.
- Function compute: Cloud Run functions (request-based billing) (vendor pricing). Can't be sized.
Google bills vCPU as well as memory, but the vCPU a function gets for its memory size is not published, so the total can't be sized.
- Object storage: Google Cloud Storage (Standard, regional) (vendor pricing)
- Data stored: 100 GB-month, $2.30 (100 GB stored)
- Internet data transfer: Google Cloud network egress (Premium Tier) (vendor pricing)
- Data transfer out to India: 200 GB, $24.00 (200 GB a month)
Assumptions
- Every API request runs one function once, and every request passes through the gateway (when it is included).
- Every run uses the average duration and the memory size you enter. Cold starts, retries and failed runs are not modelled.
- Duration is billed as entered. Azure also rounds memory up to the next 128 MB, which is applied for Azure.
- x86 functions at on-demand prices. Arm functions, provisioned concurrency, committed-use plans and reserved capacity are not included.
- Monthly free allowances are applied where a vendor gives one. AWS and Azure apply theirs across the whole account, so an account that already uses functions has less of it left.
- Data out to the internet and object storage are priced as in the web app estimate. Traffic between the gateway, the functions and storage in one region is assumed free.
- No database is included: serverless databases are billed on different models on each cloud, so there is no like-for-like price.
What is left out, and why
- The database. Managed serverless databases are billed on different models on each cloud (capacity units, request units, compute-seconds), so there is no like-for-like price. For a database sized in servers, see the web app estimate.
- Google Cloud. Google bills a function's vCPU as well as its memory, but publishes no table of the vCPU a function gets for its memory size, and its API Gateway call price is not in the Cloud Billing Catalog this site reads. Both show as "Can't be sized" and Google is never ranked cheapest.
- Different gateway products. AWS HTTP APIs, Azure API Management (Consumption tier) and Oracle API Gateway differ in features. The comparison is for plain proxying and token checks only, and the gateway can be switched off.
Prices come from the vendors' own price data, as on the other estimates; see how it works. The sizing has tests. This page is English only for now.
